Tile-crafting

I have been attempting to make Latin Scrabble custom tiles out of a variety of hardwoods, exotic and other wise (see photo, below). Unfortunately, to date, the hardwoods have proved too prone to splintering and breaking when cut into small tiles. Until this problem is addressed, the project is stalled. Anyone with suggestions of insight into the process used to make actual Scrabble tiles, I would love to hear from you, by email.
